Bug Description
Binary package hint: nautilus
Seen in: Dapper, Feisty, Gutsy. I started with Dapper (Moved from Debian) and avoided Edgy.
Laptop: It will drain the battery, spin up the fans, etc.
In this specific case, I noticed it because I need about 90% of my P3 933Mhz system to watch some higher resolution videos with vlc or totem and had several second video skips (even though gnome-video-
Interim solution: Switch to a different directory that doesn't have downloading videos. This won't help if you happen to be downloading the video to the desktop though.
Proposed solution: If a file has been modified previously in the last N seconds and has been modified again, do not attempt to thumbnail the file.

Don't try to thumbnail files which have been modified in the
last few seconds to avoid constantly re-thumbnailing them.

Maybe there is something buggy in the code or your download sometime stop for over 3 seconds?
