Not sure what all this means. Do you have a fix for this?

I confirm a problem when trying to run any windowed program in wine, including winecfg :
X is totaly frozen : no keyboard (so no way to switch to a console), no mouse of course. But the system answers hibernation commands, so the kernel seems to be still responding.
Running XFCE on a i386

OK, "me, too"..

Maybe slightly different - only X crashes and I get back to the KDM login.

My system:

* Kubuntu Gutsy AMD64, upgraded from Feisty today
* vanilla 2.6.23 kernel from kernel.org
* NVidia-driver via the downloadable installer from nvidia.com

I'm sorry! The problem I reported above was my fault.

I didn't re-run NVidia's binary driver installer after the upgrade.
Apparently, the "still-installed-from-Feisty" third-party-driver-installation became broken during the upgrade.

Of course, if anyone else were to blame for this, it would be NVidia, for not releasing a free driver.

Maybe one could add a detection to the xorg distribution packages, to check if any third-party X grapics drivers
are present, and output a textbox or warning message in that case, saying that the X installation is likely to be
broken after the update? OK, that's for the wishlist..

I'm using the via unichrome driver in XFCE. Gutsy upgraded from feisty.

Not Sure if that would help for me. I have a stock Compaq presario and do
not know which driver to experiment with. I am afraid it would destroy my
screen and block me from un-doing the attempt. Still crashes.

Well people at winehq think it's not a bug but a 3D graphic driver problem. I've just installed AssaultCube and it works perfectly. Wine still doesn't...

It seems people at winehq were right, in my case it's a via driver bug :
