Regression: no usplash in Gutsy

Bug Description

When I start up Gutsy on my Toshiba Satellite A105, there is no usplash screen. The login screen still comes on after boot is done, but between the time Grub is finished and X starts, the screen is totally blank.

Hi, thanks for your bug report! Can you specify which graphics card you have? This can be found in the output of the 'lspci' command.

Is that the info you're looking for?
And... does usplash use the graphics card now???

The bugs seem similar, but I don't know for sure that it is a duplicate. Is there an objective way for me to verify whether this bug is a duplicate?

You can manually set /etc/usplash.conf to 1024x768 and see if the problem persists.

I manually set /etc/usplash.conf from:
# Usplash configuration file
xres=1280
yres=1024

to:

# Usplash configuration file
xres=1024
yres=768

This did not change usplash's startup or shutdown behaviour. usplash still makes no appearance.
