Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-rt

A few days ago (I don't remember exactly when), after a few kernel updates on Gutsy, suddenly the nvidia driver stopped working under the linux-rt kernel. Before this update, everything had worked fine. When I now boot with the rt-kernel, Ubuntu starts in the safe-graphics mode (or something like that), falling back on the vesa driver.

Two points:
1. Most important: why doesn't the nvidia driver work with the rt-kernel? It should.
2. And IF Ubuntu really for some reason can't initialize the nvidia driver, it should fall back on the opensource nv driver, not on the vesa driver.

This probably is a duplicate of this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22/+bug/130837

Some extra info:
The linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-12-rt is the last one that still works good. Both linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-13-rt and linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-14-rt do not work anymore.

I'm experiencing this, too, and it's quite a show-stopper for my audio work.

The linux-restricted-modules-2.6.22-12-rt package doesn't seem to be available in the gutsy repositories.

If I really needed realtime + nvidia, how would I go about installing 2.6.22-12-rt and its associated modules, and other files?

Could you provide output of this command:

dpkg -l | grep "\-rt"

Thanks!

Also, FYI, I'm currently running just fine, using the nVidia driver from

@exactt could you install missing packages with "apt-get install linux-rt" and test after reboot, please?

Thank you very much!

Hi Alessio,

installing linux-rt fixed the problem. seems the ubuntu-studio-audio meta package is missing some of the linux-rt packages...

Thx
