Bug Description

Ubuntu 7.10, all latest packages as of today.

I am getting a lot of static (pops, crackle) when playing mp3s with Rhythmbox. Some data points follow:
- low-bitrate (96kpbs vs. 160 kbps) files cause significantly more static
- errors DO NOT happen when playing the same file with VLC (or a Sandisk Sansa)
- tested with two sound cards: MAudio Audiophile 2496 and Intel G33 integrated HDA. Errors are the same.

This is on x86, 32-bit, both -rt and -generic kernels. I'm going to check 64bit later.

You don't think it might have anything to do with the g-streamer codecs do you?

This sounds like a gstreamer issue, thus not related to Medibuntu, forwarding to Ubuntu.

Changed in medibuntu:

could be a duplicate of bug #116990, does the new alsa-lib version fix the issue?
