In the attachment a screenshot showing the icons used (the icons on the left-hand side, next to Screen 1 and Screen 2, aren't native Xubuntu icons, at least, I couldn't find them).

It is other way round: your icon theme does not provide an icon theme for displayconfig-gtk. we need special device icons to represent the aspect ratio.

Isn't there the Tango naming convention or something to define the name of the icons displayconfig-gtk should provide? I think Xubuntu has those icons available, i.e. the icons on the right (next to "Custom 1") are correct, and very similar to what I think ought to be on the left.

I talked with lapo about this. there seems to be the plan to extend the icon definition by more devices. but currently there is no spec to follow or any other icons to use. So I created the icons on my own (using the Human icons as a base).

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release, Hardy Heron? Thanks in advance.

Yep, still an issue in Xubuntu 8.04, the monitor icons on the left still look out of place like in the screenshot above.

Thank you for reporting this bug and for your efforts to make
Ubuntu better. As Xorg has improved this past year, an unfortunate side
effect of these improvements is that it has rendered several design
assumptions in displayconfig-gtk obsolete. So, starting with Hardy we
are no longer putting displayconfig-gtk forth as a primary configuration
tool, and are putting our development focus into the Screen Resolution
applet. As a result, we do not plan to fix this bug and thus are closing
it.
