Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

I noticed that I was experiencing some slowness in the terminal this was most apparent when I ran 'make clean && make xconfig' in /usr/src/linux. Upon checking gnome-system-monitor I noticed that I had 4 instances of gnome-appearance-properties running. Each of these processes was eating about 25% of my CPU (Intel Q6600). Each instance was also using a different amount of memory (between 5-25mb). Killing these processes makes everything fly again.

I've tried changing themes, and disabling compiz just in case, but it made no difference. I also noticed previews are not being shown, but I don't know if its related (needs different bug?).

Thanks for your report. Can you provide us some easy steps for trigger the bug? Does it happen with every user on your desktop ? May you try with a new user? Is that a fresh installation of Gutsy or an upgraded version from Feisty?

I have created a new user and I have been unable to replicate the problem. After removing any gnome/gtk related .files in my home directory the problem has now disappeared. Theme previews are also working again.

I think this is down to bad house keeping in my home directory. I have just come from a 2 year old Gentoo install.

Please close this bug as this was not an Ubuntu problem. Sorry for taking up your time.
