volume control appears as mute when its not

Bug Description

The gnome panel appears as muted when it actually isn't. I was listening to music and moved it up and it broke, meaning I can't adjust the volume up or down, it remains the same and when I try to unmute it doesn't. ( Despite the fact that music is still playing.) I have screenshots.

Well it's not letting me upload. They show that the volume control is in the right output and that in volume control the volume is not muted. When you right click the icon, the mute checkbox is checked and you cant uncheck it. Also this all is in feisty.

I have a similar problem:
When using the mouse wheel over the volume control applet to change the volume, sometimes it appears as mute (white X in a red square) but it is not. Just turn the wheel again and it appears correct.
