Bug Description

Tested ubuntu-7.10-rc-desktop-i386, booting from CD, on an Inspiron 500m (Intel 855GM Integrated Graphics, Pentium M 1.5GHz) with a 1400*1050 built-in LCD. When closing the LCD lid (or pressing the button that this normally actuates), the screen goes black, except the cursor which remains visible and white, with backlight still lit. Nothing happens (cursor won't disapear or even move, backlight does not turn off), and the way out is a hard shutdown of the machine by pressing the power button for 5 seconds. Done twice with identical result.

I must say that the 1400*1050 LCD works at the native resolution, thanks to some "new intel driver" according to https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-i810/+bug/63560/comments/32

In Gutsy Tribe 5, I did not notice this crash (I can try it again to be sure, if that helps), but the screen was at 1280*1024 (reportedly using the i810 driver without 915 resolution).

So my best guess is a shutdown bug with that "new intel driver" for Intel 855GM Integrated Graphics.
