Bugzilla fails install when mysql has password

Bug Description

Binary package hint: bugzilla

Bugzilla will not create Databases/tables (and i think its user) when installed on a system with a password protected mysql server.
Upstream has a number of related bugs:

I just finished installing bugzilla3 (intrepid, amd64, kubuntu, x86_64) . The mysql server root has a password set and it works fine. I don't see this error.
