Qtiplot crashes when minimizing graph (fixed in 0.9.3 final in Debian testing)

Bug Description

When I plot a table (graph type 'line') and then minimize that graph, qtiplot crashes with 'ASSERT failure in QFont::setPointSizeF: "point size must be greater than 0", file text/qfont.cpp, line 710 Aborted (core dumped)'.

I'm using qtiplot 0.9-rc2 on Gutsy amd64.

I've reported this upstream as it also happens with Qtiplot 0.9 final from the debian repos: https://developer.berlios.de/bugs/?func=detailbug&bug_id=12227&group_id=6626

Hm, the developer says:
"This is a problem due to the Qt version available on your Debian system. With Qt 4.2.3, compiled from sources, the bug doesn't show on any Linux system I could test (Ubuntu 7.04 and Suse 10.1). "

A bug in the Qt version provided by Gutsy?

Okay, I think it is not a problem of Qt, as I can only reproduce that bug with the above .qti file.

Update: With old Qt 4.2.3 from Feisty, everything works... The author said, that this bug appears because Qt 4.3 is not compatible with Qt 4.2, he plans to use Qt 4.3 starting with Qtiplot 0.9.2.

Also found this problem (column options made qtiplot crash) on an i386 machine. Installing Qt 4.2 from the Feisty repos helped here as well.

Here a backtrace done in Hardy daily-live 20071211 (amd64). Unfortunately, I could not install debugging symbols, as the package qtiplot-dbgsym depends on qtiplot 0.9~rc2, while the package in the repos is 0.9-3.

Version 0.9.3 of qtiplot has been released on 2008-03-03. I've been using qtiplot's SVN the past months to avoid crasher bugs like this. I hope we can get the latest qtiplot into Hardy.
I've tested the file above with a locally compiled 0.9.3-rc3 on amd64 and couldn't reproduce the problem.

Well, with the version provided in Hardy Alpha 5 (0.9.3~rc2-2, amd64) I can still reproduce the bug clicking on the right column, selecting a scatter plot and then minimizing this plot...

Ok, I can reproduce it with an SVN version from the beginning of February iirc (qtiplot -v says QtiPlot 0.9.3-rc2), but today's SVN (12 March 2008, which gives QtiPlot 0.9.3-2 as version) doesn't have this problem: the window is now unmaximised when the scatter plot is created. So it seems to be solved!
Note that the problem only occured when the initial table window is maximised, the resulting plot window is kept maximised and subsequently minimised.

Yes, I can confirm that this is resolved in Qtiplot 0.9.3 (version from Debian unstable).

But I don't think, this version will be included in Hardy, the release has already passed a couple of freezes...? Maybe you can try filing a wish-list bug to merge this version from Debian?

But ... Hardy coming out with a 'release candidate' of QtiPlot while a 'stable release' is available sounds somewhat odd to me.
Anyway, a Debian merge may be a good idea indeed. It might deserve more than wish-list since it also fixes problems.

Yeah, you're right. That's why I have nominated it for Hardy. But I doubt this bug will catch the developer's attention in time to make it into Hardy. They're probably busy with the more important problems such a short time before the release...

Marking as 'fix released', as it is fixed in Intrepid.
Backport to Hardy would be still nice, though. :)
