Bug Description
This is more of a feature request for snapcraft. That is to have the option with the kernel plugin so that we can use a debian package of the kernel with all customizations done to it so that we don't have to compile and recompile kernel from source to build the kernel .snap. IE, build a kernel, with custom drivers, package it up into a deb, then convert it to a snap using snapcraft.

Next time, please log bug against the snapcraft project for greater visibility.
In snapcraft 2.18 we introduced using debs as sources, but even with the nil plugin this was possible.
I guess the only limitation left is the fact that you need to re-create the initrd which I wish gets some time allocated for on the snapd team for that not to be necessary anymore.
