Bug Description

Binary package hint: thunderbird

This problem occurred on a new installation of 7.10 - I was running Compiz fusion and noticed that Thunderbird caused the frames/sec to nose dive from 200+ to less than 4 in about 30 seconds, this I ascribed to a Compiz problem. Then I found that T-bird repeatedly crashed on clicking on e-mail messages.
I removed Compiz and the same problem (crashing) occurred in Metacity so I guess it is a 2.0.0.6 problem?

Addendum to this report, should have noticed that the installed version as reported by synaptic is 2.0.0.8 whereas the version that is shown in 'about is 2.0.0.6 - since I have transferred my .mozilla-thunderbird file from 7.04 - maybe this is part of the problem?

Just installed a load of fonts through Automatix2 - and the problem seems to have gone away, fonts (or lack of) causing a crash or just a coincidence - either way seems OK for now!

Hi,

please submit the crash report by (double) clicking on it (e.g. using gnome file manager). Otherwise, we won't be able to process it efficiently. The .crash files can be found in the /var/crash directory.

Thanks,
 - Alexander

Re-opening this bug as I'm experiencing the same problem (2.0.0.8~pre071022+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.7.10 on amd64), and I have no idea what fonts "fixed" the original reporter's problem.

In my case, clicking on any mail message in any IMAP folder causes thunderbird to segfault and crash. However, if I "apt-get --reinstall install thunderbird", it will work for one session, and then start crashing again. So I have to reinstall thunderbird every time I want to check my mail.

Also, I removed the mail account that was having the problem and recreated it, and the problem persisted. As well, these crashes don't seem to be creating a crash report in /var/cash, and there doesn't seem to be a thunderbird-dbg package.

Disabling and re-enabling my add-ons as was suggested in 85616 sorted out my problem.
