Bug Description

I installed gutsy on AMD Athlon 64 2800+ , 180 GHz, LG 700E 17' monitor,512 MB RAM,SiS Real integrated graphics card. Installation was done from AMD64 Live CD. Installation went smooth without any hitch. The problem is that gutsy freezes completely frequently. Often this happens when firefox is running along with synaptic or pidgeon. This has also happened when synaptic is run alone(clicking on the 'updates available' baloon). When it freezes nothing can be done except restart the system by cutting out the power.
There is a problem with graphics too. The desktop menu bar gets discolored with Firefox running. The discoloration is in rectangular patches and ranges from gray to Bright blue/cyan-ish at times. At time the patches flow over to firefox window open below. Often when OO Writer is run strange black criss cross lines appear in the background on the Desktop and they keep changing a little. Slowly the whole Desktop graphics get corrupted. In such a situation many Menu buttons disappear and when I try to shut the machine down all the buttons of the dialog box are not visible. The system gets slow too.
should i try the 'alternate CD' install?
