Bug Description

I've a quite old Pinnacle PC-TV Studio/Rave. Previously working on Win various systems.
Also working fine on a Mandrake don't remember what (9?).

Now in Ubuntu 7.10 video is OK both with TVTime and Xawtv.

No way of making sound work. I attached speakers directly on the audio out of the card, no sound at all.

"btaudio" doesn't exist on Ubuntu 7.10
I think that "bt878: AUDIO driver version 0.0.0 loaded" means that no audio is loaded.

pls someone can help?
which module is missing?
is that a kernel bug?

best of all

I've resolv this issue using workaround from "https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-source-2.6.15/+bug/29789/comments/47" thas is:

"
I created the file /etc/modprobe.d/pinnacle-pctv with this content:

# Sound is broken when modules are loaded in the default order
install bttv modprobe tuner ; modprobe --ignore-install bttv $CMDLINE_OPTS

"

@Beppe Ursino, did you test that workaround on the Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release of the newer upcoming Jaunty Jackalope 9.04? If you haven't tested with Jaunty, it would be great to know if this workaround is still required. Thanks.

I've test this on Ubuntu 9.04: the workaround is still necessary. Infact, if I don't use file "/etc/modprobe.d/pinnacle-pctv" I can watch tv but i cannot hear the audio, only white noise.

I have rename "/etc/modprobe.d/pinnacle-pctv" in "/etc/modprobe.d/pinnacle-pctv.conf", so I don't see any warning using modprobe...

I've test on Ubuntu Karmic 9.10 and there is same problem. Besides the workaround seems it doesn't works. Now I can watch tv but I cannot hear the audio.

I'm sorry for the previous post. The workaround still works, but by default the Ubuntu 9.10 put "line-in" mute, so it's not possible to hear any sound. I change it through "amixer" shell command.

I tried the workaround with no effect.
I did try and type it in a command line:
install bttv modprobe tuner ; modprobe --ignore-install bttv $CMDLINE_OPTS
and got:
install: target `tuner' is not a directory
or am I doing something extremely silly?
