Bug Description

Default install of 7.10. I installed build-essentials and openmpi-bin openmpi-dev.

I tried to compile the very simple openMPI file (will attach later) to test my setup. It gave me the following output.

fritzs@blind:~/dev/mpi/hw1$ mpirun -np 1 hello
libibverbs: Fatal: couldn't read uverbs ABI version.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry! You were supposed to get help about:
    btl:no-nics
from the file:
    help-mpi-btl-base.txt
But I couldn't find any file matching that name. Sorry!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Process 0 on blind out of 1

On investigating (I don't really know that much about the openmpi-common package, but it seems the problem is on this end) I found the following:

fritzs@blind:~/dev/mpi/hw1$ find / -iname "help-mpi-btl-base.txt" 2>/dev/null
/usr/share/openmpi/help-mpi-btl-base.txt

fritzs@blind:~/dev/mpi/hw1$ dpkg -S /usr/share/openmpi/help-mpi-btl-base.txt
openmpi-common: /usr/share/openmpi/help-mpi-btl-base.txt

fritzs@blind:~/dev/mpi/hw1$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/libibverbs.so.1
libibverbs1: /usr/lib/libibverbs.so.1

I don't really know who's bug this is, but the file is obviously not ending up where libibverbs expects it to be.

Also, is it really proper that this warning message is the default behavior?

Sean

Hi, this is probably a duplicate of bug #152273
What version of openmpi-bin are you using ?
please include the output of dpkg -l | grep openmpi

1.1-2.5 has problems (looking for files in the wrong directory) and these should be resolved with an update to 1.1-2.5ubuntu1
