Bug Description

There are too few packages available in the Ubuntu package repository.

I open the "Add/Remove Applications" package manager thing from the "Applications" menu in Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon.

And it has too few packages, there are many packages, which I want to install, but I can't find them.

* Apache
* PHP
* MySQL
* GKrellM
* Conky
* Ruby
* Fluxbox
* Openbox
* Blackbox
* Xfce
* rxvt
... etc

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue you described is not a real bug. You can install those packages using Synaptic (System -> Administration -> Synaptic Package Manager).

From the Help page for Install and Remove Applications:
Only simple additions and removals can be performed with Install and Remove Applications. For more advanced needs, the Synaptic Package Manager is used.

Feel free to submit any future bugs you may find.

Hi, I am new to Ubuntu.

This is pretty confusing, that there are two different applications for kind of the same purpose.
Why I use Add/Remove software for some stuff, but Synaptic for other stuff? This is confusing to me...

I discovered that I could install Conky and GKrellM via the command-line using apt-get.

I don't understand why some are "Simple" and some are "Advanced", and why there needs to be a difference on how they install. I just want it to work and be simple and consistent.
