Bug Description

Hi,

same problem as with xubuntu-core:

The xubuntu-desktop package pulls in heaps of fonts completely useless for 99,5% of users.

All sorts of special asian fonts, bengali, hindi, japanese, chinese, never asking whether I want to use or need them.

It results in rendering several programs unusable, since font selectors (e.g. in libreoffice) are jammed with tons of useless fonts, making it slow, difficult, and, due to memory limitations, sometimes impossible to find the font one would need.

All these special fonts belong in locale packages, not in -desktop or -core packages.

These fonts are part of the desktop-common seed. They are included in all Ubuntu flavors and cannot be selectively excluded by Xubuntu. If you want to remove these packages after installation, some variation of the below command should work for you.

sudo apt remove fonts-beng* fonts-deva* fonts-gargi fonts-gubbi fonts-gujr* fonts-guru* fonts-indic fonts-kacst* fonts-kalapi fonts-khmeros-core fonts-knda fonts-lao fonts-lklug-sinhala fonts-lohit* fonts-mlym fonts-nakula fonts-navilu fonts-noto-cjk fonts-orya* fonts-pagul fonts-sahadeva fonts-samyak* fonts-sarai fonts-sil* fonts-smc* fonts-taml fonts-telu* fonts-thai-tlwg fonts-tibetan-machine fonts-tlwg*
