Bug Description

---Problem Description---
Some CAPI Flash cards need notification of device shutdown
in order to flush pending I/Os.

A PCI notification hook for shutdown has been added where
the driver notifies the card and returns. When the device
is removed in the PCI remove path, this code will wait for
shutdown processing to complete. It could take a minimum of
1 second for shutdown processing to complete. To avoid an
indefinite wait, code has been added to read the status
incrementally from 100ms up to 1.5 seconds.

This is a defect placeholder for submitting a patch to Canonical, that is in the process of getting submitted upstream for the 4.8 kernel.

We would like to have this patch included in the pointrelease, 16.04.1.

Please lookout for the patch that will be attached to this bug soon and probably closer to the deadline for 16.04.1.

I will submit the patch as soon as I get the review comments addressed and well tested.

I have two requests.

1. Can you please backport below commit from upstream ?

9526f36026f778e82b5175249443854c03b2e660 cxlflash: Fix regression issue with re-ordering patch

This commit fixes a regression issue with the patch that I see in Xenial SRU - Commit 6ded8b3cbd9a ("cxlflash: Unmap problem state area before detaching
master context"). Please backport this patch to Xenial SRU.

2. I'm submitting the patch series that was sent upstream as NOUP/SAUCE request. Here is the link to upstream submission.

http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=146603458019991&w=2
http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=146603459319993&w=2
http://marc.info/?l=linux-scsi&m=146603461020012&w=2

I'm also attaching these three patches as attachment cut against xenial/master-next plus the patch 9526f36026f778e82b5175249443854c03b2e660 cxlflash: Fix regression issue with re-ordering patch.

So please apply it on top of the backported patch.

These patches are requested for Xenial SRU point release 16.04.1. They are in the process of getting upstreamed.

FYI that these have been approved for 4.8 and are in the SCSI maintainers 'misc' branch:

git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/jejb/scsi.git

61f7d21 cxlflash: Shutdown notify support for CXL Flash cards
4fecd27 cxlflash: Add device dependent flags
894ef44 cxlflash: Fix to drain operations from previous reset

Tim - Thanks for the update.

This was kind of buried above, but we also need this commit picked up as well to avoid a regression:

9526f36026f778e82b5175249443854c03b2e660 (cxlflash: Fix regression issue with re-ordering patch)

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-xenial' to 'verification-done-xenial'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!
