Bug Description

Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.15

This problem interests both ubuntu 7.10 and kubuntu 7.10 (although in different ways).

I have a notebook HP nx6110 (linux certified).

When I close the lid the screen is correctly turned off. Neverthless when the lid is reopened the system ignores this fact and continue to act as if the lid were still closed.
In kubuntu the screen is turned on for few seconds and then turn off again. The movement of the mouse cause a lighting followed by a sudden turning off.
In ubuntu the screen turn on correctly but programs, like "gnometris", randomly enter in paused mode.

The problem never come with earlier versions. And is really annoying in kubuntu.

Besides it seems that the system also has problems to enter automatic suspension.

A Thanks anticipated, for the support that you will want to give me.

I have read carefully the bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/acpi-support/+bug/44393 but it doesn't seems to be a duplicate of mine because the proposed workaround doesn't work.
And, since the bug 44393 had been closed but the problem persists, I decided to request to reopen this bug.

More informations:

Close lid.
Open lid.
/proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state says "state: closed"

Trying to force state through this script, fails:
    $ UDI=`hal-find-by-property --key info.product --string 'Lid Switch'`
    $ hal-set-property --udi $UDI --key button.state.value --bool false
because /proc/acpi/button/lid/*/state remains in a closed state.

Launchpad Janitor (janitor) wrote : This bug is now reported against the 'linux' package

Beginning with the Hardy Heron 8.04 development cycle, all open Ubuntu kernel bugs need to be reported against the "linux" kernel package. We are automatically migrating this bug to the new "linux" package. However, development has already began for the upcoming Intrepid Ibex 8.10 release. It would be helpful if you could test the upcoming release and verify if this is still an issue - http://www.ubuntu.com/testing . If the issue still exists, please update this report by changing the Status of the "linux" task from "Incomplete" to "New". We appreciate your patience and understanding as we make this transition. Thanks!

Filippo Pagin, thank you for reporting this bug to Ubuntu. Gutsy reached EOL on April 18th, 2009.
See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

Is this an issue in a supported release? If so, could you please execute the following command, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:
apport-collect 159309

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.
