[7.10 - pidgin 2.2.1] adding a buddy-icon complains that the size is too large, no mention of more appropriate dimensions

Binary package hint: pidgin

In attempting to add a buddy-icon for my XMPP account an error appears saying that the file is too large, please try a smaller image. The problem here is that the error should suggest a more appropriate size. See below for a screenshot of the error vs the dimensions of the image I'm attempting to use.
