Bug Description

Binary package hint: vzctl

This upstream patch [1] helps with Upstart issue on virtual environment (VE)
which is running on OpenVZ hardware node (HN). I've tested it successfully
on my testing Gutsy box with rebuilt vzctl 3.0.16-4 package and Linux kernel
2.6.18+ovz028stab039.

Please see more details at OpenVZ Bugzilla site [2].

The patch was commited by OpenVZ people and it will be available in vzctl-3.0.19 [3].

I'm going to prepare unofficial package with fixed vzctl for Gutsy users. I think that
will be useful for them.

Fixing bug #183774 should also fix this one. So it might make sense to make this bug a duplicate of the bug #183774. Not sure how to do in launchpad though :(

Unfortunately, syncing the latest version of vzctl 3.0.22 from Debian
will not fix old vzctl 3.0.16 package for Gutsy. It's still unusable for
Ubuntu OpenVZ HN with Ubuntu OpenVZ VEs.

I think that Ubuntu should build fixed vzctl package for Gutsy
as backport, because it seems that your patch is not a security issue.
Gutsy is still an official stable release of Ubuntu and they will
release Hardy for a few months.

Of course, in my opinion Hardy should include the latest vzctl tool,
it means version 3.0.22 or newer.

Paweł, please follow the StableReleaseUpdate process or request a backport. Both is documented on wiki.ubuntu.com: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/SRU and http://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuBackports.

I'm closing this particular bug here as "Fix released" (for Hardy).
