Bug Description

In Ubuntu 7.10 the screen goes blank even having configured in the power manager that never should go to blank.

I'm using Ubuntu 7.10 with compiz fusion in a ACER travelmate 4000 with an ATI Mobile 9700. The dirver is the restricted one.

The screen saver is not active. The exact configuration is set
computer inactive after 2 hours and I haven't tick the activate screen
saver when the computer is inactive button.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in gnome-screensaver and gnome-power-manager.
OK I fixed it... this one is a fun one.
In power preferences, in AC options the slider is for "Set display brightness" and it's on 100%. The slider for Battery options however is for "Dim display by", which seems backwards... I don't understand why they both wouldn't be brightness sliders, but oh well.
Santins,

How often does the screen go blank? Is it predictable?

Also, this bug seems like it is related to the other you reported (bug 160200). They may be caused by the same underlying issue.

Thanks!

It goes blank if the computer is inactive around 10 or 15 minutes. It always
happens in that situation.

This sounds like an acpi issue. Since you already have an acpi bug reported in LP with more information, I am closing this one. Please add any more information to that report: bug 160200 .

Thanks!
