Boot fails because Windows drives couldn't be mounted

Bug Description

During install I had some windows partitions that I selected mount points for.
After installing, I reformatted the Windows drive so those partitions weren't mountable.
Ubuntu now fails to boot because it can't mount them. Why does it need to?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we can't fix it because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport, either via the appropriate application's "Help -> Report a Problem" menu or using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

1. Run installer, give mount points to non-install partitions. After install, reformat those other partitions but leave Ubuntu ones alone.
2. Expect to be able to boot Ubuntu, since its data are there and intact.
3. Ubuntu goes into rescue mode when it couldn't mount something at boot - even if it doesn't and won't ever need anything from those mount points to continue normally.

I haven't tried it in a while, so maybe it's fixed, but I'm pretty sure the first post had all the steps, the expected output, and the actual output.

I have not been able to reproduce this. I done as described above:
Install Ubuntu dual-boot with Windows, then formatted the windows partition with gparted.
Rebooted.
No problems.

Can I ask how you formatted the Windows partition? Is there only 1 drive or more? How are they configured?
