Bug Description

Binary package hint: dolphin

This on Gutsy. Dolphin 0.9.2 on KDE 3.5.8

Dolphin fails to remember the username and password after connecting to an SMB share. If you double-click a folder (or try to change up to the parent folder), the user/password dialog is re-presented.

Further, the username/password in the re-presented dialog is corrupted by shortening and inserting "..." in the middle. This corruption also occurs on the first username/password dialog if the username is entered on the address bar, e.g.
smb://domain\username@server/share

Forgetting the user/pass is bad enough to make SMB with dolphin essentially unuseable.
Same problem seems to happen with konqueror.

Kubuntu 7.10 has reached the end of its supported life. It is also highly likely that this bug has been fixed in a more recent version of Kubuntu, since Dolphin received massive improvements in Kubuntu 8.10. If this bug is present in Kubuntu 8.10 or higher, please reopen this bug report.

I have the same behavior with Dolphin in Kubuntu Karmic 9.10 amd64.

Even when I set my user/password in System Settings/Sharing/Windows shares and supply it to Dolphin when connecting to the share, Dolphin will ask for my credentials again.

However, this is not always so, there are moments I can browse through several folders without being asked to supply my credentials. But sooner or later it will start asking these over and over again....

Its not losing the credentials. I had the same problem and dug through it. smb component in dolphin is making too many connections and as a result filling up the server side user session limit that is 10 for XP. Then it ignores the STATUS_REQUEST_NOT_ACCEPTED on session creation and gets access denied when trying to connect. I have filed a bug about this upstream. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=221094

This only happens if the machine has lots of shares and/or lots of other users. 10 concurrent session limit is easy to hit with 7 shares and dolphin making a connection for each one on sight + one for your request and there are two more people using the system.

Same problem here. In 9.04 Dolphin was able to access smb shares, in 9.10 it cannot. Instead it repeatedly asks for authentication credentials. When will there be a fix?
