Bug Description

Version: Ubuntu 7.10

When adding or removing software via Synaptic that registers (or un-registers) Gnome menu items, the Gnome menu list shows duplicates of menu items when viewed. For example, after installing Wireshark via Synaptic, my Gnome menu shows duplicates of all existing items such as under "Applications->Internet":

  Evolution Mail
  Evolution Mail
  Firefox Web Browser
  Firefox Web Browser
  Pidgin Internet Messenger
  Pidgin Internet Messenger
  Thunderbird
  Thunderbird
  Wireshark
  Wireshark
  Wireshark (as root)
  Wireshark (as root)

All menus show duplicates and Wireshark was just an example of an application I installed recently that cause the menu to show these duplicates.

Looks like it just isn't Synaptic. I installed another application (Netbeans 6.0 RC 1) which added itself to the menu system and then I now have duplicates of all menu items again. (restarting cleans things up).

Thanks for your report, May you try to see if you get those menus with another new user account in your system ? it seems that there's something broken with your configuration, thanks.
