Not a ubuntu bug. Sending to medibuntu, as it appears to be something they've distributed.

Those were the instructions I followed that led to the error.

sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/gutsy.list -O /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list

worked fine and

wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O-

on its own but

sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update

or the whole line together (wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update)

just makes the terminal freeze up. any attempt to run apt after that gave that error.

Pardon - when I run the whole line together

wget -q http://packages.medibuntu.org/medibuntu-key.gpg -O- | sudo apt-key add - && sudo apt-get update

terminal returns

gpg: no valid OpenPGP data found.

It freezes when I try to run just the second half.

IT don't freeze when you try the second half. apt-key add - just waits for entry from stdin ...

Can you past contents of /etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list ?

Are you sure you use a O (the letter) and not the zero in your command lines ?

I had the same thing happen in hardy heron and it crashed synaptic so I ended up having to reinstall the whole operating system
