Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

initially i thought this was something to do with Gmail since that's where i first encountered the error. but now when i go even to my launchpad account i get:

mail.google.com has sent and incorrect or unexpected message. Error Code: -12263

with the first part (mail.google.com) being replaced by whatever URL i visited. so far, it only happens with Gmail and launchpad. i don't encounter it with ubuntuforums.org where iam also logged in. i looked at my certificates in FF and they're all the default ones. i don't have any of my own.

using FF2 (updated) in ubuntu 7.10. all have latest updates.

could you have a look at this page : http://kb.mozillazine.org/SSL_is_disabled

can you report back whether this has helped ?

hello, i did almost all the suggested steps from the link provided and i still get the same error message. the only thing i didn't do, which was the last step, is to completely removed FF and reinstall it.

an observation i noted is that it didn't happen only with https but with http also. the SSL test

http://weblogin.bu.edu/troubleshooting?cmd=ssl

is http as can be seen and i get the error there too.

also, the problem happens at random, it seems, as when i clicked on the SSL test link a second time the problem doesn't appear.

Can you specify the exact version of ubuntu (uname -a in terminal)
The version of firefox you’re using
Does this error also happen when all firefox add-ons are disabled ?
Have you set up a firewall ?

   thanks,

Yes it happens with or without add-ons. And because I initially suspected the add-ons, profiles, localstore.rdf, extensions, themes, and the likes I created a totally new profile in a separate, different directory to be sure I'm using a FF as if "fresh from factory". same problem.

I have removed firestarter also as this may cause the intermittent problem so basically my ubuntu's protection is the same as what comes out of the box. same problem.

here are the information you requested:

Linux badbanana 2.6.22-14-generic #1 SMP Sun Oct 14 23:05:12 GMT 2007 i686 GNU/Linux

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US;rv:1.8.1.8) Gecko/20071022 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.8

Hi,

are some sites blocked in your /etc/hosts file ?
maybe you try and delete some certificates that are stored in firfox ?

the certificates that i have are the ones that came with the stock FF. if any of those are the cause, then my problem should be happening to everybody.

my /etc/hosts file is the stock one that came with ubuntu.

Hi,

the only other thing that comes to my mind is that the router might be set up to block certain sites/ports

I'll open the bug back up so that someone else can have a look at it also

rino ... sure that firestarter didn't leave any iptables rules around?

maybe run an iptables --list in a console to see if all are just ACCEPT.
