aMule is not killed by OOM killer when it consumes all the memory available

Bug Description

Sometimes aMule goes crazy and quickly consumes the 1GB of RAM + 1.5 GB of swap of my laptop. I would expect the OMM killer to kill aMule, however the computer freezes completely (even the mouse pointer) and I need to turn it off. Interestingly, if I had "top" running on the background, I can see it being updated continuously all the time.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at [WWW] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. I have classified this bug as a bug in amule.

I can't see why this is a bug in aMule. If the system runs out of memory, it should be the kernel who ends an application.

Bug 162341 is about a memory leak by the way.

I reported the bug and I didn't associate to aMule for those very reasons. I have assigned it now to my kernel version: 2.6.20-16-generic

Nevertheless, aMule is not just leaking memory here, it is consuming more than 1GB in just a few seconds!

But anyway, I cannot reproduce this behaviour anymore so it is better to close this. I will open a more complete bug report if it happened again. Thanks.
