Looks like lvm2 got left out of the lubuntu 16.10 image.

Hello everyone,

i could solve the problem by using the alternate iso 16.10 and what it did different was to unmount a partition that was being used. Without unmonting it i could not install grub on the destination drive ever.

Now all it is OK and i am using EFI. If you need me to do some other testing please say so.

Cheers!!!

Is this still an issue with the 17.10 ISO?

I can try this weekend with 17.10, I never could install 17.10 via ISO
because my usb wifi stopped working there right at the installation also. I
spent several hours trying to understand the problem, but i couldn't.

This is the card:

Do you want me to test the ISO install of 17.10 this weekend and reply back
in this e-mail?

Cheers

This is still an issue with 17.10. Doing a 'sudo apt-get install lvm2' before running the installer seems to fix it.

I have this problem on the lubuntu 17.10 installer iso that I just downloaded too. Seems to be not fixed in the released package.

This has not been fixed. While it appears the package is now in the pool on the cd, it is not installed in the live image and so the installation still fails because it can not execute lvs.

Either the package needs to be installed in the live image instead of being placed in pool ( which I think is how it is done on regular Ubuntu ), or the installer needs to be modified to install it when needed.

Since it was fixed, let's say it's fixed rather than invalid ;)
