Here is an example of a JPEG file that kills eog 2.20.1/x86_64. The image passes the test by jpeginfo and can be displayed by any other program I've tried.
Running jpegoptim on it helps.

Thanks Aurel, that works fine here for me with Hardy i see the "celebrating 25 years blabla". I'm closing this report for now feel free to re open it if you can reproduce the same with Hardy, thanks.
