Bad playback of shorten files ( .shn )

Bug Description

I first noticed the bug using amarok.

Shorten files will be sorted in the playlist but when played, all there is to hear is a choppy stream of sound (clearly decodes properly but only sends out little bits of the sound file at a time, almost as though it was lagging while trying to decode)

The bug seems to have been filed under the music player (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xine-lib/+bug/63130) but as I (and others) have noticed, amarok uses xine as sound system. I have tried playing shn files with another xine front end (gxine) and have found the same behavior.

If only this could be sorted out! I'm certain many audiophiles would be greatful :)

I've tried to locate some shn files in the web and even tried to convert a wav file, but I failed to do so.

could someone please attach an example shn file to demonstrate this bug? if you can please try to reproduce it with current xine.

I have attached a sample shn file to work with. With any luck, it'll upload this time.

Attribution and relevant info: This recording is Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds, performing February 6, 1996. The track is the first part of Ants Marching. There is a good deal of echo on this recording because of the location of the microphone relative to the speakers and the geometry of the venue. In addition, the song ends with a fade-out at 51 seconds, in the middle of the song. This track has been selected because it's small. Uploading a four or five minute track via a web browser sucks (a 5:00 track from this show weighs in at 26 meg); if you want longer tracks, better quality, or whatever, please contact me directly and I'll provide a better method of transfer.

The md5sum -b on this file is ceada37b0decffa17fc11b6d8c058b0d. (For complete information on the lineage of this recording, plug the md5 into the search function at http://db.etree.org. God I'm a weenie for this stuff.)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue for you. Can you try with the latest Ubuntu release? Thanks in advance.
