after some debugging i found that reverting these three patches fixed it:

7c50722 nvme: use the DMA_ATTR_NO_WARN attribute
96530c8 powerpc: implement the DMA_ATTR_NO_WARN attribute
3fbd4bc dma-mapping: introduce the DMA_ATTR_NO_WARN attribute

it appears the real problem is only 3fbd4bc, where it overrides all the DMA #defines (and introduce a new one), but without this commit, the other two patches are moot and break compilation.
