Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Steps: Open home folder icon.

App loads up but sits and spins, not displaying anything. Previous attempts worked fine, no changes to contents of folder. A restart will often clear the problem up. Contents are still viewable in terminal.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.
We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures
At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

I've encountered the same bug recently, although in Ubuntu 8.04. The problem with this bug is that it isn't any obvious steps to follow to reproduce it, as it appears to be entirely random.

Nautilus acts really weird when this bug occurs, creating a new folder will let you see that folder (and only that folder). Pressing reload shows a blank window again. I was able to get the tree view in the side pane to show a form of weird directory listing for my home folder (showing only the default Ubuntu folders (Documents, Music etc.) and the newly created folders) by creating a new folder, pressing the up button to go to /home, and then contracting and expanding the Home Folder entry in the tree view. Running 'killall nautilus' to restart nautilus didn't resolve the problem.

Reopened, as it now occurs in 8.04 as well.
