I have several mp4s which are in ipod format and gsteamer does not play them.

Sorry, I just found out this seems to be a problem of miro. It did not download these files completely - although it claims so.

Miro seems to have trouble downloading a great number of feeds not listed on the front page - one example would be the Ubuntu screencasts reported to be around 549MB for episode 11. Selecting to download leads to a 32.2kb download and it's flagged as 'Unwatched' and will not download any further.
