SOLUTION
I was able to trace down the problem to "libc6_2.6.1-1ubuntu10_amd64.deb" (ld-linux-x86-64.so.2).
I was able to correct the problem by downloading "libc6_2.6.1-1ubuntu9_amd64.deb", installing it via dpkg, and then doing a full system upgrade via apt-get upgrade (libc6_2.6.1-1ubuntu10_amd64.deb the only package reinstalled)
Now totem works again

Marked as a duplicate of buh #161050 cause it was caused by the same problem.
I think it's safe to close this bug.
