Bug Description
Binary package hint: guarddog
Good Day . . .
I have been having connectivity issues with network-manager related software. Everything shows connectivity but my modem lights do not blink. Just by chance I saw on my bootup an echo, "Setting up guarddog firewall." This is not possible since I removed the guarddog package.
I checked my system files and inside /etc/init.d is the guarddog setup script much alive and executable. Also in the /etc directory I found the rc.firewall files also much alive. I cannot seem to delete the guarddog script but I can make it unexecutable.
Synopsis: With guarddog removed Firefox cannot access the internet. With guarddog removed and the the /etc/init.
These two files should have been removed when I removed guarddog because they are startup scripts. With these two files present my old guarddog configuration prevented my firefox from seeing the outside world.
Work Around: The only way to ensure that these two files (maybe more?) are removed is to request complete removal of guarddog. This is wrong. These two files continue the legacy of guarddog so they should be removed with the rest of the package at the removal stage.
ps: 1. The reason that I removed guarddog is that there are too many choices that I know nothing about. With time I may learn more and reuse the software.
2. This may be the reason others cannot use the network-manager software just like me.
Hope this helps.
Is this symptom still reproducible in 8.10 from a live environment?
