Bug Description

Installers generally let you configure your timezone. Subiquity does not. If it does, it should attempt to geoip in the background rather than making the user wait for it...

It's not especially clear that we want to add this but leaving open for now.

Really? You are actually in doubt about adding user configurable time zone in installer?

For a server installer, yes. Every question / screen that gets added is more complexity, and there's a pretty good argument for keeping servers in UTC. It's not like it's hard to change after install either.

We could always add this but there are rather a lot of things to do that seem more important.

Please add it as an option in the automated install at the very least.
It is an option in the debian automated installer as well as the clock set in UTC-option.

Oops. Just noticed it is an option in the cloud-init config docs. So you can set it using the user-data.

This is just another example of having separate confusing configuration documentation locations for different not clearly separated things.

I stumbled upon the unset timezone (UTC) after having installed ub22 server. Because this bug. OS installers asked for timezone for decades.
I wonder how many subiquity manual installed servers keep UTC as timezone, I guess less than 10%.

Also I doubt that anyone who is not able or not willing to use english as installation and OS language (and instead selects local language in the installer menu) wants to use UTC as system time.
