Bug Description

In 17.10, activating appindicators extension doesn't show icons on the top. However, activating topicons plus does. I know I'm running little apps/indicators, because they show whenever i activate topicons. Whenever I activate ubuntu appindicators, nothing happens, can't access the apps in any way.

Did you remember to enable (and not just install) the extension?

You will need to toggle the extensions on in Gnome Tweak Tool.

I wrote "activating appindicators". That obviously means "enabling and not just installing".

OK, thanks for being awake. Plenty of users will employ the wrong wording so we always have to ask...

I *think* that gnome-shell-extension-appindicator is meant to be activated by default in 17.10. It just looks disabled due to bug 1718850 and bug 1236749. Please check those out.

Does logging into "Ubuntu" (wayland) solve the problem?

In bug 1714504 it is mentioned this is could be a problem just with "Ubuntu on Xorg".

could you add your syslog to the bug?

I am in Wayland, because that's what 17.10 is by default. I would mention xorg specifically, because it isn't the default.

Can you explain more specifically what you want from my syslog? In Ubuntu 17.10, there's a System log, sparse, and totally irrelevant. There's an Applications log, but it's overloaded with tons of irrelevant errors.

syslog is a log file (/var/log/syslog), it might contains errors/warnings which are useful to understand the issue

I know. What parts do you want to see? generally the way to biew syslog is
type log in the start menu, and open an app called log viewer or something
similar. its divided into parts as i mentioned, and the vast majority of it
is irrelevant. what specific things should i look for and share?
