hangs on dapper->hardy upgrade

Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

On a dapper->hardy upgrade X hangs in the "xserver-xorg.postinst configure 7.0.0-0ubuntu45". I also see a debconf process (even though the upgrade tester sets DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive). It seems like its waiting for input.

It seems to also restart my gdm (causing a seperate bug in the failsafeXsession). I got reports about X being restarted during upgrades before (feisty->gutsy) so there might be a older bug here.

Settings priority to high as it breaks my automatic upgrade testing.

Wasn't this fixed by this commit?

  * Deregister old debconf questions before calling dexconf. dexconf calls
     db_stop, and we can't use debconf after that. Add a comment to that
     effect above the dexconf call in debian/xserver-xorg.postinst.in, to try
     to prevent future mistakes. Thanks, Michael Vogt!
