Maybe this could fix also https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-menus/+bug/13172 but I am not sure

I attach a patch for modifying a bit /etc/xdg/menus/applications.menu for preventing some useless kde menu entries (for a gnome user), like KDE preferences menus.

Thanks a lot for including. This is being used since months in Gentoo with no problem at all

That would be better discussed on the ubuntu-devel-discuss list and sent upstream, could you open a bug on bugzilla.gnome.org about that? Some users install KDE applications under GNOME and when them to be listed in the menus, not sure if the change really makes sense.

Just, sent. Affected file in gnome-menus sources is layout/applications.menu

This patch only affect to useless kde apps like KDE apps preferences (kicker preferences, kwin preferences), other qt apps (like k3b, kconverter, konqueror, kopete...) are not affected by this

Upstream closed the bug saying that the right change would be for those items to use OnlyShowIn=KDE

The affected desktop files moved to a kde-only location in KDE 4 making this report invalid for Intrepid (8.10).
