Bug Description

Binary package hint: alsa-modules-2.4.26-1-386

Cannot get my sound card to fully function. It seems that the SB0400 Audigy 2 Value has a reputation for not working properly with recent versions of ALSA.

I can actually listen to MP3's, but cannot get any system sounds to work, flash, or anything else. I have all necessary restricted drivers and patches.

ah ha!

This is because Ubuntu was selecting an internal sound device for some of the sounds (system sounds, etc) and then using my Audigy for other sounds....despite my manual selection in the Preferences > Sound control panel.

So....I'll try to de-activate the internal sound completely by preventing the driver from loading....
or just switch my speakers over to the crappy internal sound.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly upload the updated logs by running apport-collect 173621 and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.
