Bug Description

I installed hardy alpha 1 this morning, it crashed and now its caused me to loose all options in the quit function. It ends up going to a log in screen and it quickly is restarted. Apparently something got changed in my home folder. I not sure if this can be classified as a bug because it sure boots fast now. If I hit quit, it shuts down quickly and then I get the log in screen. Including typing, its way less than a minute to shut down and get the desktop back.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" [WWW] http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems. [WWW] http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

I have a new install of 7.10 Gutsy with all updates. I followed your instructions to upgrade to 8.04 hardy by using the commands provided in terminal. After issuing the command "update-manager -d" it downloaded about 190 mgs of files and installed. After the install I did a reboot and was unable to get Hardy's desktop because of a /etc/X11/xorg issue. I then did a new install of 7.10 Gutsy.
My computer ( pe865, 2.6Ghz P4, 1.75 gig memory, 80 gig wd sata Hd ) has a separate 9 gig home partition, 1 gig swap, and balance for /. With the original Gutsy install I had the ability to shut down my system 5 ways by hitting quit in system. A screen would pop up and give me the choices.
Now when I hit quit, it immediately shuts down and goes to a gnome log in screen that has a large bar at the bottom with choices on the left and a box in the desktop middle that allows you to log in with user name and password.
 Do you need anything else?
