multiple monitor settings lost

Bug Description

Gutsy Gibbon

Dell XPS m1330 laptop

HP 2335 connected to analog plug.

System installs and boots on the builtin monitor. Display settings describes the monitor at this point as 'Generic' with the correct resolution: 1280x800.

I add the second monitor and specify it's configuration. I follow the instructions to log out and in. Something has trashed the settings for the main monitor. It is now 'plug and play' with the wrong resolution. I go back and forth indefinitely.

Even changing from 'left' to 'top' on the extra monitor and proceeding to log out and in has the same effect of trashing the main monitor.

is this still an issue with hardy/interprid?

I'm not in a position to tell you for sure. I believe that I saw a variety of jumping-bean problems even in hardy with multiple monitors, but surely you or upstream have plenty of other reports of problems with the GUI->xorg.conf conversions.

Hi bimargulies,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.
