Bug Description

Binary package hint: rhythmbox

Rhythmbox detects when I connect my play station portable but fails to sync as it is trying to sync with the wrong music directory.
The path that rhythmbox is currently "file://media/DEVICE/PSP/MUSIC" but the correct path should be "file://media/DEVICE/MUSIC".
Any mp3 that is put in the /MUSIC directory can then be played from the device.

Thanks for your report, which version of Ubuntu are you running? Does it works fine if you sync it with a new user?

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The issue that you reported is one that should be reproducible with the live environment of the Desktop CD of the development release - Hardy Heron. It would help us greatly if you could test with it so we can work on getting it fixed in the next release of Ubuntu. You can find out more about the development release at http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/ . Thanks again and we appreciate your help.

Hi,
because this problem still exists in Hardy Heron, I've reopened this bug report. But I can't say many more about this problem, because I can't see the directory that rhythmbox is trying to use. I just know that the directory used by a PSP to play music is no longer /PSP/MUSIC. Now its only /MUSIC.

Ok, after a short time of trying I found the solution of this problem. First rhythmbox sets /MUSIC as the path to the music at a PSP. Second someone (also rhythmbox??) adds the entry from hal to this path (this entry is "PSP/MUSIC"). At the end rhythmbox tries to find the music at "MUSIC/PSP/MUSIC/" which is more than wrong. I just set the entry in hal ("/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktopusb-music-players.fdi") to "" and now it works fine.

Same problem still existing with a SONY NWZ-E438F (portable MP3-video player). This is NOT a PSP.

Rhythmbox seeks songs and puts them in /PSP/MUSIC/, but it should be /MUSIC/
