Bug Description

Kubuntu 18.04 daily iso dated 2018/02/28
Ubiquity version 18.04.2

Ubiquity crashes on iso startup when trying to display the try/install screen.

Dismissing it starts the live session.

It also crashes in the same manner when launched from within the live session.

Force downgrading to ubiquity 18.04.1 allows the installer to launch

Crash confirmed also on real hardware - not virtualbox as was used for above initial report.

I have tested the packages produced from that branch. In a VM ubiquity now starts ok, and a basic test install completed without error.

This bug was fixed in the package ubiquity - 18.04.3

---------------
ubiquity (18.04.3) bionic; urgency=medium

  [ Sebastien Bacher ]
  * Remove the encrypted userdir option from the gtk installer since
ecryptfs is going to move to universe. The keep the base code in case
the option is added back later using another technology.

  [ Iain Lane ]
  * Fix a crash in the KDE frontend - don't refer to a widget that doesn't
exist. Properly hide the miminal install label and checkbox. (LP:
    #1752323)
  * install_misc: Use the `get_casper' function to properly get the location
    of the live media path.

An issue with conflicts from the mesa/libglvnd etc transition (I presume) means daily iso is not building at the moment, so that last build 20130301 still has the broken ubiquity 18.04.2. Please bear with us.

Is this fix ? because I see this in all the version of Ubuntu start from 12.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS.

That's sad, I ❤️ Ubuntu don't wanna shift on another distro tho.

Did you `apt update; apt install --reinstall ubiquity` to get the latest version, before launching the installer?
