Bug Description

Under 18.04, for about a week now, my touchpad’s pointer is very hesitant and just stops most of the time. It will only starts moving again after clicking buttons a couple times and will work for a second or two.
I have a similar problem running Bionic 2018-02-28 Live USB.
The hardware is not at cause here since it works perfectly under 17.10 on the same system.
Don,t know if it is xorg or kernel related.

As of 2018-03-20, the problem is still present in Bionic. Installing xserver-xorg-input-synaptics seem to have fixed the issue, but shouldn’t libinput have been sufficient?

there's libinput 1.10.3-2 in bionic-proposed that you could try

Looks like a slightly old version is installed:

  libinput-bin 1.10.0-1
  libinput10 1.10.0-1

Since version 1.10.3 is now released as of an hour ago, please try uninstalling xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, fully update your system and retest.

As recommended, I have uninstalled xserver-xorg-input-synaptics, updated libinput10 and libinput-bin to 1.10.3-2, otherwise updated the whole system, rebooted and the problem is still present for this Logitech wireless touchpad.
Reinstalling xserver-xorg-input-synaptics takes care of the problem though. So I’d say there is indeed an ongoing issue here.
Let me know is can help/test further.

Thanks for testing that. The next step is to report the problem to libinput developers. So please do that here:

https://bugs.freedesktop.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=wayland&component=libinput

and mention that you are using libinput 1.10.3

Once that new bug has been created, please tell us here what its ID is.

I can confirm that my Logitech wireless touchpad is once again working using libinput10 v1.10.7-1, without xserver-xorg-input-synaptics.

Fix released then.

libinput (1.10.7-1) unstable; urgency=medium

  * New upstream release.
