Bug Description

Binary package hint: update-manager

I've just installed Kubuntu 7.10. Adept shows in the tray that there are updates. So I go updating and just before finishing the program crashed.

Same thing happened to me.

I installed Kubuntu 7.10 and the adept-manager told me I had 129 updates to do. So it downloaded them all, but at 61% of the installation, during the install of a packages called "lib...<something>...3" it causes errors that stops the update. :(

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. You reported this bug a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering is this still an issue for you? Thanks in advance.

Changed in update-manager:
status: New → Incomplete

Yes there are many packages that crashes during the installation
and the update with adept. A sample is the Sun JRE.

Apt-get is working fine, but adept is a disaster.
Adept is not an exeption. There are many things in this version (7.10) that
are a shame to ubuntu.
Wireless works only when the configuration is done by hand.
Soundcard (soundblaster live) I never had it working.
Cant play youtube (flash) on Opera.
KDE crashes many times and so on.

It's a disaster. Suse is 20% greater and working fine.

greetings, Ronald

I have the same problem
I installed a GUTSY 7.10 from CD installed restarted run ADEPT

No update available, but only recommendation to run full upgrade.. and I am told that 7.10 is available.

Runs a while and suddenly, I have a message that one package would be desinstalled at the end as not maintained any more.... and than stop with send bug report proposition.

Regards,

Apparently this was due to this.

During installation, I was disconnected from network. At the end of the install, I got a warning that the repository for immediate update during the installation being unavailabel
1) the update was not done
2) the config file was modified to comment out the row of the repository
3) I should uncomment it later.
4) I forgot about it

So when restarting the computer with network and while running ADEPT, it logically did not looked at updates and only at upgrades

It still does not explain why it proposes to upgrade from 7.10 to 7.10, but it explains why no updates were available,

I re-flag the correct check box in the "manage repositories" and was then able to update. and now no more upgrade are proposed.

I am having the same problem. I was told I had 152 updates but the install crashed at roughly 60 percent. Adept will not function again unless the entire system is restarted.

Linux n00b. Got what appears to be this exact error. When i rebooted and attempted to run the updates after the fact, i get yet another error stating "Unable to get exclusive lock"

upon reboot, Kubuntu was borked and could not be found, so i had to reinstall. thinking it was just a one time problem, i reinstalled and ran updates, and here i am again.

seems to be an issue with libqt3-mt and java???

the following supposedly fixes it:

sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/lock
sudo dpkg --configure -a
-> read the output, you will have to answer a few questions
sudo dpkg --configure --pending
