Bug Description

I tried to install Kubuntu 7.10 - Gutsy Gibbon and when the xserver should start (during installation, the "live session"), the screen get's black. If I try to press Ctrl+Alt+F1 (or F2 or ... or F6), the screen gets even darker (the monitor turns off, i.e. screen light turns off).
So I've got no way to manually modify the xorg.conf file.

I now tried with Kubuntu Hardy Alpha 1. there after the xserver starts, the same happens. But this time I was able to press Ctrl+Alt+F6 and changed in the "Device" section, of the xorg.conf file, the Driver of the graphic device drive, from "intel" to "i810". After restarting the xserver, it worked fine...

Please attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log and /etc/X11/xorg.conf after the start failure with -intel, and also attach the output of lspci -vvnn.

Because I have not that much time, I did not install Kubuntu again, only for there files. I could not use the Gusty live, for the reasons I explained above, so I used Kubuntu Hardy Alpha 1 live to get these files.

This bug could be a duplicate of Bug #157213 which is fixed in latest Hardy. Could you please recheck it with Hardy Alpha 6 Live CD?
You can download and try the new Hardy Heron Alpha release from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/hardy/ . If you can, please verify if this bug still exists or not and report back your results.
Thanks.
