Bug Description

Binary package hint: xorg

Subpixel font rendering uses wrong LCD pixel color order after LCD screen is rotated with RandR.

Ubuntu Gutsy 7.10

1. In Preferences->Appearances, turn on "Subpixel smoothing (LCDs)
2. Click on "Details..." button, and ensure the right "Subpixel Order" is selected.
Most LCD screens has "RGB" as the color order.
3. Use the command "xrandr" to rotate the screen to portrait.
4. Look at a web page, or any text. The text are displayed with a "rainbow" effect.
The text are still rendered with sub-pixel order of "RGB", even after the screen is rotated.
XRandR should change the sub-pixel order to the correct current screen rotation, such as VRGB.

Thanks.

Works for me. You didn't specify anything about the hardware you're using, but I tested on an -intel 965GM running hardy beta and it's working fine. If it is still a problem for you, feel free to reopen, but please include your Xorg.0.log.

Doesn't seem work on the current karmic beta. I have to manually change the ordering from RGB to VRGB when I switch from laptop screen to dual portrait external monitors. This is using the intel drivers on a GMA 4500HD card.
